4.5" Fossil Fern (Sphenopteris) Plate - Pottsville Formation, Alabama

This is a beautiful 1.1" fossil fern (Sphenopteris) frond section, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. This beautiful specimen contains sections of five leaflets of the frond. The top of the leaflet is so well preserved, it still shows venation.

Sphenopteris is a genus of seed fern that contains a number of extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

Comes with an acrylic stand.
