1.4" Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) Tooth In Sandstone - New Mexico

This is a very well preserved 1.4" Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) tooth still partially embedded in the sandstone in which it was found. This tooth is well preserved with good enamel. It is missing the tip and shows cracks from Fossilization. The apical (cutting edge) is visible but is non serrate. The tooth continues through the stone and bit can be seen on the back.

Phytosaurs looked similar to modern day crocodiles with some differences. The main one being that their nostrils were up high on the head instead of at the very front of the snout. They grew up to 20 feet in length and were certainly one of the dominant predators at the time.
