1.9" Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite With Stalk Eyes
This is a 1.9" long, slightly arched specimen of the long, stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.
The trilobite has a slight arch to it, but the base of the piece has been cut flat so that it displays nicely. Restoration is very minimal, only about 1%. The tip of one pleural spine on the right hand side, and then some touchups along a repaired crack on the left hand side of the thorax.
