2.5" Polished Agatized Dinosaur (Gembone) Sphere - Morocco

This is large section of agatized dinosaur bone (most likely saurapod in origin) that's been polished into the shape of a sphere. The bone was collected from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco. The polish is excellent and allows for display of the bone cell structures. Comes with pictured display stand.

Agatized dinosaur bone is a rare form of fossilized dinosaur bone where the original fossilized bone has been re-mineralized (replaced) with silica based compounds (agate, jasper, chalcedony, or opal). Aagatized bone is either found as surface-level fragments that have long since been destroyed by exposure to the elements, or as broken and tumbled chunks in event layers of the quarry. It could have come from any of a number of dinosaurs from this formation, though sometimes based on cell size and outer appearance the type can be narrowed down.
