3.7" Fossil Sperm Whale Tooth - South Carolina

This is a Miocene aged fossil sperm whale tooth that was found in South Carolina associated with shark teeth including Megalodon. These whales would have been a food source for the gigantic Megalodon sharks living at the same time. The tooth is very solid and is 3.7 inches in length. Its fairly water worn, hence the bargain price.

While the tooth came from a sperm whale, identifying it to the genus level is impossible. This is because there were 14 known genera of Sperm Whales living in the past compared to 2 today. The size and shape of teeth between these types overlap significantly.
