4" Acadoparadoxides Trilobite - Stunning Preservation

This is a gorgeous, bright orange, 4" long Acadoparadoxides levisettii (Geyer & Vincent, 2014) trilobite. This is not one of those heavily restored, or completely fake specimens sold by many dealers.

It comes from the basal layers of the Jbel Wawrmast Formation in Southern Morocco. It has a natural, orange coloration due to the oxidization of iron pyrite. There is some restoration to the ends of many of the pleural tips where the shell tends to come off on the negative.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
