5.1" Elegant, Lichid Trilobite (Arctinurus) - Middleport, New York
This is a classic, North American trilobite and a species that is highly desirable among collectors. It is a 5.1" long Arctinurus boltoni from the Rochester Shale of New York. It is nicely centered on a 8.2 x 6.5" slab of shale. There are several spots of touchup restoration across the shell, and a repaired crack through the trilobite/rock where it broke during collection.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k currently described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left an excellent fossil record.
