5.4" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Pecopteris) Frond Plate - France
This is a fascinating fossil fern (Pecopteris polymorpha) frond plate from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The ferns are scattered about a rectangular-cut, 5.4 x 4.5", thick slab of rock. A truly breathtaking fossil fern plate!
