This is a fascinating fossil fern (Pecopteris cythea) frond plate from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The ferns are scattered about a 6.9 x 3.6" slab of rock. A truly breathtaking fossil fern plate!
