Bargain, 2.4" Rare Kayserops megaspina (aka Comura cometa)

This is a rare Kayserops megaspina from Bou Lachrhal, Morocco. In the past this trilobite has often been referred to as “Comura cometa", but it actually bears few similarities with the genus Comura.

It's curled over but would be about 2.5" long if outstretched. Both genal spines have been prepared free standing. The right genal spine might be a composite, but other than that there is just some touchups of scratches and dings from preparation.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
