Bargain, 6" Sycamore (Macginitiea) Leaf - Montana

This is a large, 6" wide fossil leaf of Macginitiea nobilis from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. It is from the Paleocene, or approximately 60 million years old. The dark orange preservation contrasts well against the lighter shale, and many the veins of the leaf can be seen in good relief. This specimen has a fair amount of restoration to touchup areas where parts of the leaf flaked off onto the negative. The price is significantly reduced because of this.

Macginitiea is a close relative to the sycamore and is one of the most common trees during the Eocene.
