Big, Serrated 1.42" Allosaurus Tooth - Colorado

This is a large, thick, 1.42" long Allosaurus tooth. It has great serrations and good enamel preservation for the Morrison Formation. These teeth are far rarer than the Tyrannosaur teeth out of the Hell Creek and Judith River Formation. There are a couple of repaired cracks and small gap fills in the tooth.

It was collected at a private quarry, east of Dinosaur, Colorado.

This tooth comes from what is being called the "Salt & Pepper Layer" in the quarry. A meter and a half thick sandy layer which probably represents a river channel deposit. It mostly contains isolated teeth and tumbled bone fragments. The quarry is also the location of the recently announce "Elvis" Torvosaurus find.
