4.3" Pennsylvanian Fern (Neuropteris) Plate - Kentucky

This is a fossil seed fern (Neuropteris) plate, from the Breathitt Formation, Leslie County, Kentucky. It contains a collection of stalks, pinnule (branch of leaflets) and leaflets. There is also a good amount of unidentified plant material present. This unidentified is possibly the horsetail-like Annularia but conclusive identification is not possible. It comes from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio.

Neuropteris is genus of seed fern, extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

Comes with an acrylic display stand.
