Two Pennsylvanian Fossil Horsetail (Sphenophyllum) Whorl - Kentucky

This is two fossil horsetail (Sphenophyllum) whorls, from the Breathitt Formation, Leslie County, Kentucky. The largest .8". Sphenophyllum is an extinct genus of vine like horsetails from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Eastern Kentucky and Ohio. In addition to the whorls, there is a section of Neuropteris pinnule (branch of leaflets) and an unidentified stalk.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
