Lot: 4 to 5" Polished Ammonite Fossils - 10 Pieces

This is a wholesale lot 10 beautiful, polished ammonite fossils from Madagascar. These ammonites are Late Cretaceous in age or approximately 110 million years old.

The ammonites range from 4.2" to 5" with most being in the middle of that range and combined the lot weights 9 1/2 lbs.

Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
