1.1" Dumortierite Quartz Crystal - Vaca Morta Quarry, Brazil

This is a gorgeous, 1.1" long terminated quartz crystal that contains blue fibrous dumortierite inclusions. This crystal was collected from Vaca Morta Quarry in Brazil, a location that's well known for these dumortierite quartz specimens.

This crystal comes with an acrylic display base and mineral tack.

Dumortierite is an aluminum boro-silicate mineral that often forms as fibrous aggregations. The crystals are typically blue, however grey-blue, green and brown crystals are also common. In rare cases, the crystals can be violet or pink. Dumortierite is often found as fibrous crystals within massive quartz, with blue dumortierite included quartz (known as "dumortierite quartz") crystals being highly sought after.

Silicon Dioxide, also known as SiO2 or Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich, hot watery solutions called hydrothermal environments, at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountains forming, and can be hundreds of millions of years old.
