.66" Rolling Hills Dolomite Cabochon Pair

This is a pair of stunning, .66" tall cabochons made from Rolling Hills Dolomite mined in Chihuahua, Mexico. This beautiful stone features colorful desert hues and dramatic rolling wave shapes. These cabochons would be perfect for jewelry making, primarily for earrings as they are a matched pair.

Rolling Hills Dolomite, also known as Wave Dolomite, is characterized by numerous wave-like bands in a variety of tans, pinks, and reds. Banding in dolomite varieties typically occurs when multiple layers of various sediments are compressed over time. There is clear directionality to the waves in this stone, providing the viewer with an idea of the movement of the formation as the rock compressed. True Rolling Hills Dolomite is mined almost exclusively from Chihuahua, Mexico.

Dolomite is both a mineral and a rock. The mineral is relatively similar to calcite, except that dolomite contains magnesium where calcite does not. The rock, also called dolostone, is a limestone-esque carbonate sedimentary rock that contains large amounts of the mineral dolomite and varying amounts of quartz, feldspar, and calcite.
