This is a colorful, 8.3" wide Morgan Hill poppy jasper slab. This colorful material was collected from the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in Morgan Hill, California. One side of the slab has been flawlessly polished to a glossy finish with no dull spots or scuffs.

Poppy jasper is the trade name used to described some orbicular jaspers whose patterns consist of orb or sphere shapes similar to poppy flowers. Morgan Hill, California is one of the better known locations from which poppy jasper is collected. There are four known locations of poppy jasper near the town, none of which are now being actively mined because the gemstone is found only on private property or protected lands.
