9.9" Polished Ammonite Fossil - Beautiful Display
This is a large, 9.9" wide polished ammonite fossil from the Mahajanga Province of Madagagascar. It is absolutely gorgeous, displaying a distinctive, "oak leaf" suture pattern.. This 110 million year old ammonite is truly a natural work of art and is very displayable on the included display stand.
Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
