POLISHED DRAGON'S BLOOD JASPER

This unique stone is commonly referred to as "dragon's blood jasper" or "dragon blood stone". It is a fairly recent discovery, quarried near Tshipise, South Africa. The name comes from the green matrix reminding people of the skin and scales of a dragon, while the red tends to look like pools of blood.

The exact composition of the stone is still up for debate and we have not yet seen any analysis done on it. One belief is that the minerals are green epidote and piemontite, while the opposing belief is that it's a bastite (pseudomorph of a serpentine variety). Until chemical analysis of this rock has been performed and published, a definitive conclusion as to the chemical composition of "dragon's blood jasper" is difficult to make.
