HANKSITE SPECIMENS

Hanksite is a rare and unusual evaporite mineral known for its distinctive hexagonal crystal form and intriguing chemistry. Found in alkaline lake environments such as California’s Searles Lake, this mineral forms through the evaporation of mineral-rich brines, resulting in crystals that are as complex as they are beautiful.

Typically appearing in shades of colorless, white, or pale yellow, hanksite crystals often display sharp, well-defined edges and a glassy to slightly matte luster. What makes hanksite especially unique is its composition—it contains both carbonate and sulfate ions, a combination that is extremely uncommon in the mineral world.
