POLISHED NELLITE

Nellite is a striking, semi-translucent gemstone distinguished by its swirling bands of gold, honey, and smoky blue—an effect created when blue hawk’s eye (crocidolite quartz) and golden tiger’s eye intermingle during metamorphism. The result is a dynamic “stormy sunrise” appearance with silky chatoyancy that shimmers beautifully when the stone is moved under light. Primarily sourced from South Africa, nellite forms when iron-rich crocidolite fibers transform into quartz yet retain their fibrous structure and vibrant coloration. It’s sometimes marketed as “African Pietersite,” though true Pietersite is brecciated and fragmented, while nellite displays a smooth, continuous patterning.
