POLISHED PINOLITE (PINOLITH STONE)

Pinolite—also called Pinolith or “Pinolith Stone”—is a rare metamorphic rock from Styria, Austria, characterized by white, pine-nut–shaped magnesite crystals scattered through a dark dolomite-graphite matrix. Its bold black-and-white patterns often mimic fossil fragments or bone chips, though the stone is entirely mineral in origin. Formed over 100 million years ago and capable of taking a high polish, Pinolite is prized for cabochons, spheres, carvings, and display pieces, each showcasing its dramatic, naturally sculptural appearance.
