1 1/4" Silver Iridescent Ammonite Fossils
These are beautiful, 110 million year old silver iridescent ammonite fossils from the Mahajanga Province of Madagascar. The photos are representative of the ammonites you will receive. They range from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" in diameter. Many have some imperfections like rock still attached to them or some shipped shell, but still are quite attractive. These bulk fossils are great for educational use, or gifts for kids.
Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
