1 3/4" Tractor Ammonite (Douvilleiceras) Fossils

These are small "tractor" ammonite fossils from the Mahajanga Province of Madagascar. They are of the genus Douvilleiceras and are Upper Cretaceous in age (approximately 110 million years old).

They range from approximately 1 3/4" to 2" wide. The photos are representative of the specimen you will receive though you will not receive the exact one pictured. Each one will come with an ID card.

Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
