1.6" Polished Rainbow Moonstone Hearts

These are 1.6" wide polished "rainbow moonstone" hearts. Most of the stones exhibit a blue adularescent effect in spots. The pictures are representative of the specimen(s) you will receive, so there will be some slight variation in size, shape, and adularescence from specimen to specimen.

Moonstone is a common and well-known gemstone that earned its name from its white to bluish "glowing" appearance in the light, caused by a phenomenon similar to chatoyance called adularescence. This light play is a result of albite crystals within the main orthoclase feldspar crystal lattice that form as a scale-like crystal formation. The light then reflects and scatters off of these formations, resulting in what appears to be a glow from beneath the surface of the stone. Good quality moonstone can have almost a bluish adularescence.
