Beautiful Opened Las Choyas Geodes - 3" to 3 1/2"

These are Las Choyas geodes, also known as coconut geodes. They range from about 3 to 3 1/2" in diameter and can contain a variety of quartz and other minerals. The quartz crystals range from clear to smoky to rarely amethyst crystals. Many secondary minerals such as goethite, hematite, mordenite, calcite, and galena may also be present in some geodes. All photos are representative, and are NOT the specific geodes you will receive.

We've already cracked these geodes open, so they're ready to enjoy right out of the box!

Geodes are rounded, hollow voids in rocks filled with crystals and other minerals. They are typically formed when air bubbles inside of volcanic rock form cavities. Over time, as mineral-rich water seeps into the void, it begins to deposit tiny crystals on the sides of the cavity. After millions of years, the flow of water gradually builds crystals inside the empty space.

Las Choyas geodes, often referred to as "coconut geodes", are mined from 100 to 200 feet below the surface near Chihuahua, Mexico. Shafts are drilled down to the geode-bearing white clay, then tunnels are dug horizontally to extract the geodes.
