This is a 3.8" late Cretaceous aged fossil shell section of a marine turtle (Toxochelys sp.). It was found in the Ozan Formation in Fannin County, Texas.

About Toxochelys
Toxochelys was a genus of marine turtle that lived in the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era. Toxochelys fossils are found in areas mainly corresponding with the Western Interior Seaway of the Cretaceous period. It lived alongside large mosasaurs and other marine turtles. The lineage of turtles Toxochelys belongs to is now extinct, but it is thought that they were a transitional stage between terrestrial ancestors and modern sea turtles.
