1.43" Tyrannosaur Premax Tooth - Judith River Formation, Montana

This is a 1.43" Tyrannosaur premaxillary tooth from the Judith River Formation of Montana. This formation is approximately 70 million years old, or about 5 million years older than the Hell Creek Formation which produces T-Rex. Comes with a floating frame display case.

The enamel and serrations remained in preserved beautifully, though there is a some chipping of enamel proximal to the root. There are three repaired cracks through the tooth, one through the root, another near the middle of the tooth and one at the tip.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
