2.5" Eocene Fossil Crab (Megakos) - Washington State
This is a nicely prepared example of the Eocene aged fossil crab Megakos macrospinus. These crabs are found within hard concretions or nodules that erode out of an Eocene aged deposit in Clallam County, Washington. Preparing these concretions is a time consuming and skilled task due to the hardness of the stone.
There is some restoration to the carapace and both claws. It is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.
Below is an example of a Pulalius vulgaris crab in its concretion after having been broken open with a sledge hammer, prior to preparation.
