4.1" Eocene Fossil Crab (Megakos) - Washington State
This is a nicely prepared example of the Eocene aged fossil crab Megakos macrospinus. These crabs are found within hard concretions or nodules that erode out of an Eocene aged deposit in Clallam County, Washington. Preparing these concretions is a time consuming and skilled task due to the hardness of the stone.
There is a repaired crack through the concretion/fossil where the nodule split during collection. It is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.
Below is an example of a Pulalius vulgaris crab in its concretion after having been broken open with a sledge hammer, prior to preparation.
