Natures Art 4.9 Inch Ammonite (Half)

This is an absolutely beautiful (half) ammonite fossil which is 110 million years old from Madagascar. It has been sliced and highly polished to reveal the spectacular inner chamber detail. The inner chambers have been agatized and many of them are preserved as calcite crystal lined pockets. It is truly a spectacular piece of "natural art". These fossils come with an acrylic display stand and is approximately 4.9 inches wide.

Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled squids with shells. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. Though their shells resemble that of a nautilus, they are actually more closely related to living octopuses. Ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago, barely surviving several major extinction events. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
