4" Clypeaster ("Sea Biscuit") Fossil - Taza, Morocco

This is a large, and very 3D fossil Echinoid of the genus Clypeaster collected near Taza, Morocco. It's still partially embedded in the limestone it was found in and was prepared so that it stands up on it's own in an aesthetic display.

Animals of the Clypeaster genus are more commonly referred to as "sea biscuits or cake urchins. The genus first appeared in the Late Eocene and survives until today.
