.42" Detailed Fossil March Fly (Bibionidae) - France

This is a beautifully preserved fossil march fly (order Diptera, family Bibionidae), collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. It measures .42" long and shows detailed leg and body preservation. Both halves of the split are present on this specimen, with one half glued to the largest slab of shale.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

There are two repaired cracks through the plate.
