This is a spectacular fossil fish "mural" from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The entire mural measures 48" wide and features two species of fish. The fossils include two Diplomystus dentatus fish and three Cockerellites (Priscacara) liops fish. They were all collected from Clear Creek Quarry near Kemmerer, Wyoming.

Measurements:
Plate - 48 x 36"
Diplomystus - 21.1" & 16.5" long
Cockerellites - 5", 4.9" & 4.2" long
Weight - 140 lbs

The huge Diplomystus was found on this large slab of rock, with the remaining fish having been inlaid to create this fascinating wall display. A wood backing has been added to the rock, along with a wood wall hanger so that it can easily be hung up upon arrival.

About Fossil Lake

50 million years ago, in the Eocene epoch, these fish thrived in Fossil Lake, which was fed by the Uinta and Rocky Mountain highlands. The anoxic conditions at the bottom of Fossil Lake slowed bacterial decomposition, prevented scavengers from disturbing corpses, and, most interestingly, suffocated creatures that ventured into the oxygen-starved aquatic layer. The result is a miraculous exhibition of Eocene biota: a subtropical aquatic community within sycamore forests, teeming with creatures such as freshwater stingrays, dog-sized horses, menacing alligators, early flying bats, and one of the first primates.
