5.6" Shale With Fossil Bryozoan Colony - Mt. Orab, Ohio

This is a really cool, fossil bryozoan colony from the Arnheim Formation of Ohio. It has been nicely prepared to remove much of the surrounding shale from the fossil. There are also several trilobite fragments (Isotelus and Flexicalymene) present on the rock.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Bryozoans are microscopic aquatic invertebrates that live in colonies, forming skeletal structures similar to corals. Each skeletal structure has a form unique to each particular species. The individual byrozoans forming these colonies are fileter feeders called zooids, straining nutrients from the surrounding water.
