5.8" Exquisetly Detailed Fish Fossil (Phareodus) - Wyoming
This is an exquisetly preserved Phareodus fossil fish from our Clear Creek Quarry near Kemmerer, Wyoming. It came out of a rarely collected layer typically referred to as the "Phareodus Layer" which preserves even better detail than the famous 18 inch layer. This layer just produces very few fish which which why it is rarely collected.
The detail on this specimen is spectacular, just check out the awesome fins. It has NO RESTORATION at all. It is located on a 9.4 x 6.3" slab of shale and comes with an acrylic display stand.

About Phareodus
Phareodus is a genus of predatory freshwater fish found in the famous Fossil Lake deposits of the Green River Formation in Wyoming. It had a mouthful of sharp pointy teeth, making it a voracious lake predator. In fact, the name Phareodus actually means "to have teeth". Spines from other fish such as Mioplosus and Priscacara have frequently been found preserved in their stomachs.
