5" Rare, Horned Ammonite (Prioncyclus) Fossil in Rock - Kansas
This is a well preserved Prioncyclus sp. "horned ammonite" from the Upper Cretaceous of Osborne County, Kansas. These ammonites are found inside of hard concretions (nodules) which are broken open to reveal them. Some of the shell of this ammonite displays purple iridescence. About 1/3rd of the nodule has been restored, resulting in some restoration of one edge of the ammonite.
This specimen sits nicely on the accompanied acrylic display stand.
