Dark Color 3D Asaphus Lepidurus Trilobite

Here is a very 3D and dark shelled example of the Russian trilobite Asaphus lepidurus. It comes from the Putilovo quarry near St. Petersburg Russia. Despite being 480 million years old it looks like it is about to crawl off of the rock thanks to the masterful preparation. This would be a impressive trilobite to add to any fossil collection. Enlarge the photos to check out all of the minute shell detail for yourself.

Like almost all Russian trilobites this does have some restoration but it is very minor (1-2% total. There is some shell restoration around a repaired crack through the left pleural tips and on top of the left eye. This restoration is done to replace shell that flaked off during collection.
