3.4" Pliocene Aged Fossil Barnacle (Balanus) Cluster - Florida

This is a exquisitely preserved fossil barnacle cluster of the genus Balanus sp.. It comes from the Tamiami Formation of Southern Florida. This formation dates to the late Miocene through Pliocene periods. The fossil has been completely removed from the surrounding, limestone matrix.

These barnacles latched on to a fossil gastropod, which can be seen almost entirely encapsulated in barnacles when viewing what could be considered the bottom of the specimen.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
