Fossil Sperm Whale Tooth - 4.9 Inches (Miocene)

This is a large Miocene aged fossil whale tooth that was found associated with Megalodon teeth. The tooth is very solid and heavy.

While the sheer size of this tooth at almost 5 inches long would mean it came from a sperm whale, identifying it to the genus level is impossible. This is because there were 14 known genera of Sperm Whales living in the past compared to 2 today. The size and shape of teeth between these types overlap significantly.
