Fossil Sycamore Seed Balls From Montana - Paleocene
This is a fossil Sycamore "seed ball" from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. It's Paleocene in age or about 60 million years old. Sycamore trees produce spiky balls (fruit) full of seeds. This is the first time I've seen fossil Sycamore fruit from the Fort Union Formation formation and I was told that only a handful of specimens were found this year from an isolated layer.
