Giant 3.77" Daspletosaurus (Tyrannosaur) Tooth

This is a huge Tyrannosaur tooth from the Two Medicine Formation (Judith River Group) of Eastern Montana. There are three known Tyrannosaurs in the formation, Daspletosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Albertosaurus and their teeth are nearly identical but given the massive size this one is certainly from Daspletosaurus. In fact this maybe the largest Daspletosaurus tooth (not counting the root) that I've seen.

The enamel preservation on the tooth is beautiful and there is minimal feeding wear to the tip. The inner serrations are present though the outer ones are mostly worn away.

This tooth was collected this summer (2015) and was part of a large lot of unprepared material we purchased and prepared in house. This is by far the largest tooth in the lot and it turned out beautifully. The back side of the tooth was in dozens of fragments so it took some time to piece if back together and required some restoration to fill in the gaps. The restoration on the front side of the tooth is pretty minimal. I've attached photos of this tooth in an unprepared state.

Pictures don't truly show the true size and impressiveness of this tooth.
