Hoploscaphites Ammonite With Clam, Gastropod, Baculite - Wyoming

This is a cool association with two Hoploscaphities ammonites and a section of Baculites (straight cephalopod). The largest ammonite is 1.25" wide and the entire specimen is 2.5 inches wide. Each ammonite has an iridescent shell and it has been wonderfully prepared. The rock also contains a variety of other small marine fossils including a clam and gastropod.

These 70 million year old ammonites lived when Wyoming and South Dakota were a shallow inland sea. It was found preserved in a concretion that was split open. It then had to be hand prepared to remove the hard rock surrounding it from the shell, a very time consuming task.
