Iridescent Hoploscaphites Ammonite From SD

This is a well preserved and very iridescent Hoploscaphites nicoletti ammonite from the Upper Cretaceous, Fox Hills Formation of South Dakota. These ammonites are found inside of hard concretions (nodules) which are broken open to reveal them. In this case the concretion has been shaped to create a beautiful, free-standing display.
