Partial Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) Tooth In Sandstone - New Mexico

This is a partial Phytosaur (Redondasaurus) tooth that's still partially embedded in the sandstone in which it was found. The tooth has nice preservation with good enamel, however the tip has broken free from the specimen. What could be considered the bottom of the specimen has another Phytosaur tooth, although it's only partially exposed.

Phytosaurs looked similar to modern day crocodiles with some minor differences. The main one being that their nostrils were up high on the head instead of at the very front of the snout. They grew up to 16 feet in length and were certainly one of the dominant predators at the time.
