Rare 2.5" Gabriceraurus Trilobite Fossil - Wisconsin
This is a beautiful 2.5" long Gabriceraurus mifflinensis from the Platteville Formation in Wisconsin. You don't see many trilobites from this area because the formations are rarely collected and the trilobites are quite rare to find complete. A variety of marine fossils have been exposed from the rock as well, including crinoid stem segments, brachiopods and trilobite pieces.
The tips of the two tail spines are restored as well as some restoration on the ends of three pleural spines on the left hand side.

About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
