Serrated, 2.35" Tyrannosaur Tooth - Judith River Formation, Montana

This is a 2.35" long Tyrannosaur tooth from the Judith River Formation of Montana. This formation is approximately 70 million years old, or about 5 million years older than the Hell Creek Formation which produces T. rex. Comes with a floating frame display case.

The serrations along both edges are present, however one serrated edge has some wearing as a result of feeding wear that starts at the tip of the tooth. There is a repaired crack near the middle of the tooth. The shifting towards the tip of the tooth occurred naturally as a result of geologic forces, though there has been some gap filling to ensure stability of the tooth. The enamel of the tooth remained in great condition and preserved with beautiful coloration.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
