Six Fossil Leaves (Zizyphoides, Davidia and Macginitiea) - Montana

These are six fossil leaves from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The rock contains four Zizyphoides flabellum leaves, a Davidia antiqua leaf and a Macginitiea nobilis (3-lobed sycamore) leaf. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaves can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaves where pieces of them flaked onto the negative during collection.

The back of this plate contains an additional Zizyphoides leaf. This specimen includes an acrylic/metal display stand.
