Sliced Phylloceras Ammonite (Half) - 3.15"

This is a 160 million year old ammonite of the genus Phylloceras which has been cut in half and polished. This reveals the detailed inner chambers, many of which are preserved as crystal lined pockets. Most of the agatized ammonites you see from Madagascar are Cretaceous in age, but these come from a different region and are Late Jurassic, about 50 million years older.

Half of the ammonite is included and It comes with an acrylic display stands.

Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals which died out at the end of the Cretaceous period. These mollusks are more closely related to living coleoids (i.e. octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species.
